Camera Movement:
The camera movement that tends to get used in music videos are Tilts, Pans, Tracking. These get used to follow the artist or band.
Mis-en-scene:
The Mis-en-scene that is created by the number performers and the props. The Mis-en-scene brings out the importance of the representation of something. An example of this is in Katy Perry’s Video “The One That Got Away.” The Mis-en-scene involves past shot of her with the person who she loved. It jump-cuts back to her life now in a empty room and how alone she is and how much she regrets letting him get away and how the money that she has now cannot buy her a time machine. The grey and dark clothing and walls represent how her life has become dull without him and how unhappy she is. The low key lighting also emphasises on it. In comparison, to her old life which uses bright colours in the clothes and environment as well as this, the high key lighting to represent how happy she was when she was with him and the close connection between them. Editing:
In Music videos the editing that is mostly used are Jump cuts. Jump Cuts help make a sudden change from one scene to another. The other way music videos can do this is by using effects called fading; this creates a different effect in comparison to using the technique called Cutting.
Lighting:
An example of this is a Black and White, Sepia and many others. These effects can make a music video interesting and possibly represent something at the same time. As well as the High key and Low Key lighting to represent a mood An example of this is in P!nk's video 'Blow Me One Last Kiss' where the producers have created a version with a Black and White Filter on it.
Sound:
The sound used in music videos tends to be the song playing on top of the lip syncing in time with each other.
Props:
The props add to a scene and help draw attention to particular objects or people. Here is an example from the song 'Wish you were here' by Avril Lavigen. In the video the main prop which gets noticed by the audience is the flower and the lighter.
